FORMER AUSTIN MAYOR WYNN HOSTING FUNDRAISER FOR RAUL ALVAREZ
(Austin) - Former Mayor Will Wynn will be hosting a fundraiser for former City Councilman and current ACC Trustee Raul Alvarez, who is running for Travis County Commissioner for precinct 4. The fundraiser will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 219 West.
"I am honored to have former Mayor Wynn support my campaign. When we worked together on the City Council, we partnered up on many projects and worked together to plan and direct Austin's growth and bring economic stability to the city." Alvarez said.
Mr. Alvarez and Mayor Wynn's work together included projects focusing on the economic development of downtown Austin. Among these projects were the Block 21 project that encompassed the new Austin City Limits studios and the W Hotel, as well as the Seaholm Power Plant Redevelopment Project and mixed-use development projects such as the Mueller Airport Redevelopment & Triangle Development projects.
"I am helping my old colleague, Raul Alvarez, in his campaign to become Travis County Commissioner, Precinct 4 (which includes part of downtown Austin). I worked closely with Raul on the City Council dais for 6 years. He was a constant supporter of dense, mixed-use development and recognizes that job creation is 'job 1'. And most importantly, he will play a critical role in implementing the policies of investment and cooperation between the County and the City."
Alvarez served on the city council from 2000-2006. In 2008, he was elected to ACC's Board of Trustees. He is currently working for AISD as grass-roots coordinator AISD's office of design. Alvarez is also a founding member of Futurofund and is heavily involved with community participation in issues dealing with East Austin.
